Bill of Sale, liens, safety inspections, and taxes vary by province and territory. Use this as a starting point and confirm with your province's registry or ministry β we don't provide legal or tax advice.

Bill of Sale, liens, safety, and taxes by province.
Most provinces require a Bill of Sale when transferring a used vehicle. mmmyep can generate a pre-populated template for your deal when you're in the finalizing stage. Typical requirements include seller and buyer names, VIN, odometer, sale price, date, and signatures.
Driver's licence: Some provinces require the buyer's or seller's driver's licence number on the Bill of Sale. Storage and handling of this information (if we add a field for it) will follow applicable privacy and compliance rules. Check your provincial registry (e.g. ServiceOntario, Alberta Registry, BC Registry, SAAQ) for current requirements.
Sellers on mmmyep attest that the vehicle is free of liens (or disclose otherwise). Buyers should still run a lien search by VIN in their province (e.g. provincial registry or service) before finalizing. If a lien is discovered after the seller represented none, use "Report lien breach" on the engagement β we extend your search and refund your deposit.
See Trust & Safety and Inspection tips for more.
Many provinces require a safety (or mechanical fitness) certificate before a used vehicle can be plated. Who pays (buyer or seller) and validity periods differ. Coordinate in chat and, if there are defects, use the engagement flow to report and remediate β see Inspection tips.
GST/PST or HST typically apply to used vehicle sales; rates and exemptions (e.g. private vs dealer) vary by province. Some provinces use the sale price on the Bill of Sale for tax; others use book value or a formula. Confirm with your province or a tax professional before registration so you're not surprised at the counter.
